CARNOTAURUS sastrei - Cretaceous dinosaur
The bulldog faced Carnotaurus was a very unusual theropod. Carnotaurus was one of the weirdest dinosaurs that ever existed. Its name is derived from horn-like crests, a bull-like guise.
Carnotaurus was a huge meat-eater, that lived in what is now South America where many unusual dinosaurs have been discovered. This unusual animal had a large skull with a pair of prominent horns above the eyes. These horns were perhaps used for mating display or even for head-butting competitions. Its bulldog skull was extremely short and deep, but jaws were slender and weak, poorly adjusted for grappling with prey. It had a blunt and deep snout. Carnotaurus had very small and underdeveloped fore limbs, even more so than those of the tyrannosaurids. Its arms were so short that the hands appeared to sprout almost directly from the elbows.
Remains are very complete, skeleton is very well preserved. There was also found an exquisite skin impression of the right side of the animal. Its skin was covered with ornate tubercles.bulldog faced Carnotaurus is a very unusual meat - eater. It was a huge dinosaur having a large skull with a pair of prominent horns above the eyes.
